kickoff and the an anticipation is building. 49er fans not lucky enough to make the trip are planning big bashing here at home. we are live in san francisco with some of the preparations. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. we are inside here at san francisco where they have expecting huge crowds here later on today as people come to buy food for the big game party tomorrow. i will tell you what they are saying that they are expecting this will be one of the bingest days, shopping days they see here at the store, one of the top three. . you can see they have the 49er flag waving here. they are waiting for all the niner fans to show up. just a bit ago we checked back in with the guys that worked in the most important part of the market when you talk about the parties and that would be the meat counter. we talked to the butchers. they were getting all the meats

prepared, cutting up the steaks, getting the pork ready, chicken wings prepared. they are expecting a big jump in sales, maybe 20 to 30% jump in sales today compared to their average day and the folks in the butcher shop said they are expecting just today they will probably sell about 1500 pounds of meat. >> how does the meat counter look saturday before the super bowl? >> it'll be full before. it'll be in shambles after. >> a challenge. up and running. >> reporter: people just pick it over clean. just everything goes. >> absolutely. lot of hungry niner fans. >> reporter: and across the country super bow parties are big business. americans planning to spend about $50 million for their super bowl parties. again here they are just opening up the doors, they opened them now at seven so

obviously not very crowded just yet but they are expecting a lot will becoming down to stock up for the party tomorrow and not only will today be a big day but also tomorrow the last minute folks coming in tomorrow morning before the super bowl gets started for all the last minute items they may have forgotten. live in san francisco, alex savage. >> expect a large dui crack down before, during and after the game. cities across the bay area are setting up checkpoints like this one last night. a large show of force is a warning that drunk driving won't be tolerated. alcohol related car crashes increased 75% on super bowl sunday. >> you have the lights out. you have the cars out. we have the motorcycles out. we are trying to make a big impression that this is a big event and big thing for people not to do. >> in addition to checkpoints patrols will look for

intoxicated drivers. bartenders, restaurant servers and people hosting super bowl parties can be held responsible if a drunk guest getting in to an accident. >> 49ers know they will have a big battlel tomorrow. joe joining us live from outside the super dome this morning in new orleans. good morning joe. >> reporter: good morning. i think we have got tone gotten to the point where we want to start playing but we are most familiar with the niners but the ravens are a good team and they have gone the under dog route. they had to win three playoff games. they had almost a miracle play to send is the game into overtime. a late touchdown pass and then they won it in double overtime. what that got them was a date to go play the patriots. they survived that game as well to get here and i think they look back to a game in the

regular season. a miracle first down they got against the chargers, every win was a must just to make it and you can't blame the ravens if they think they are a team of destiny. >> you think a 4th down situation, you aren't thinking about dumping the ball off, you are thinking of a hail mary kind of play and i guess the word is ray rice took the middle. >> the situation so that clock is zero. you never doubt that you can't win. we have been in tight spots. we have gotten out. >> the reason we made the plays is because which have been presented with them before and we either made them or haven't there. are been times where we made them, times where we haven't. so i think -- i think being put in those situations throughout the year got us ready so -- nobody realized it was that situation until after. >> we know the 49ers story lines but the biggest ravens

telegraph. he was pronounced dead at the scene. the shootings happened in the middle of the art murmur, it promotes local art work and shops. investigators haven't commented on if the event was connected to the shooting. >> a homicide investigation underway in fairfield where a teen girl's body was found in a park. a passerby found the naked body in allen whit park on west texas street around 6:45. police say that the girl was a middle school student. she was reported missing thursday night after she didn't come home from school. our news crew on the scene met a man who said he had driven by the park around 5:00 a.m. and saw something he thought was suspicious. >> car parked in the parking lot facing south with its headlights on with a larger man standing next to his car. it just struck me funny all day. >> police say they are

following up on that man's information and reviewing all available surveillance video in the area. we found two cameras across the street. police say one didn't get anything, the other was not operating. >> a woman may face charges for prompting a alert about a c doesn't exist. highway signs started flashing after the woman said her boyfriend attacked her and kidnapped their daughter. the boyfriend gave up and told his side of the story. investigators confirmed there was no child. so far police are not releasing her name. >> a warning for twitter users. the networking site said hack s may have gained the personal information of 250,000 users. that information may include user names, e-mail addresses and passwords. twitter said e-mails have gone out to affected users. >> new this morning phil has

. welcome back. live look over oakland. blanket of low clouds, patchy fog and the temperatures three to six degrees warmer this morning. >> fbi agents are still negotiating a gunman holding a 5-year-old boy in a bunker. this is day five of the standoff in midland city alabama. officers say the gunman kidnapped the boy from a school bus there after killing the bus driver on tuesday. police took that bus away from the scene yesterday. negotiators have been talking to the gunman through a ventilation pipe. they say they must be caution and patient. deputies released this photograph of the gunman and identified him as 65-year-old jimmy lee dikes. he has been known to stay in his bunker for more than a week. he. a convicted murder who was released by mistake after a court appearance in chicago is back in custody.

authorities say steve robins was recaptured late last night about 60 miles outside of chicago. he had been on the run for three days. authorities say he was mistakenly released after a court appearance on a drug charge. he had been servinga a 60 year sentence for murder. >> as you know crews have been in new orleans all weekend. if you have been there we want to give you a look at where everything is happening. here you can the super dome and over to the northeast the famous french quarter and bourbon street is. go another four and a half miles and this is that lower 9th ward. we want you to look at that. it's a very different reality there. that of course is the area that was devastated by hurricane katrina back in 2005 and remember these pictures? they are still just -- really difficult to see but giving us the idea of why that area is still struggling to recover. the numbers from that disaster still hard to understand, more than 30 bodies found, thousands

left homeless, 300,000 homes destroyed with damage estimates ranging from 96 to $125 billion. now that may make the economic impact expected from hosting the super bowl more profound. according to estimates the game could bring a 434 million- dollar spending boom to the new orleans area. that is about 143 million more than what the area got back in 2002 when it last hosted the big game. there have also been more than 6,000 full and part-time jobs created by the super bowl up to 150,000 expected to visit new orleans just during the game for this weekend and for the state and local government that means 26 million in expected revenue. >> the dow jones starting next month above the 14,000 mark the presidents said our economy is poised to expand. >> 2013 can be a year of solid growth, more jobs and higher

wages but that will only happen if we put a stop toself inflicted wounds in washington. >> and this morning the president once again called on congress to work together on a balanced approach to reduce the deficit and promote economic growth. he said businesses created 2.2 million jobs last year. he suggests economic reforms including reducing the cost of health care programs like medicare and closing loopholes in the tax code. this is the first time in five-year that the dow closed above 14,000. it had dropped as low as 6600 in 2009, increased consumer confidence, manufacturing and auto sales are credited for the surge. >> we are moving in the right direction compared to a lot of other countries we are in a good position. >> the economy has improved. you can put the money in the bank but you earn no interest. >> economists say many prefer american investments because the european markets struggling

and many consider china as over valued. however others add that just because wall street is up doesn't necessarily mean that the average american is better off, more than 12 million are still looking for jobs. >> hundreds of people in northern california are looking for new jobs as massive layoffs start at campbell soup. 290 workers were laid off at the sacramento county plant yesterday. workers have made soup there since 1946. one of the out going workers was hit hard. he is still reeling a personal tragedy and is now moving to oregon. >> i just lost my wife and now with campbell's closing i don't really have a whole lot of reason to be here so i'm going back home. >> the plant is the oldest plant in america. parts of it will stay open for a few months. they plan to close in july and will let go 760 workers.

around. it's such a -- it's spread out a little bit where there is music in different venues and you have the french quarter. the convention center but it's not that far to get to, just a quick cab ride. you can just take the street cars sometimes or walk. it's an easy thing for the fans to be able to get around and we know it's a big party. clash that with the pride of the city overall and it's a blast here in new orleans. can't believe its been 11 years since the super bowl has been here last. it won't be that long until the next one. the 49ers get set to take on the ravens and you can feel the hype machine starting to pick up. i know the media has been stressing but now the fans are getting in to it here in new orleans. >> thank you for that. appreciate it. the big easy is one big party this weekend. >>

released. investigators searching for buried murder victims haven't found thing. they are searching for the victims of the so-called speed freak killers. they have been digging for 25 days in the well and have reached a depth of 65 feet. >> should teachers carry guns on school campuses? a new survey shows voters say no. they asked 1200 voters if 31% want firearm trained teachers carrying guns. 67% favor hiring counselors or police officers. 96% approve of emergency response training for school employees. this week republican lawmakers introduced a bill to arm teachers. fatty chip cans, candy could soon be replaced by bake tripped, trail mix and low fat

beneath the car. police are looking into what caused that driver to loose control. two more bay area people have died from this winter's flu outbreak. two homeless men, both 58 died of the flu in january. the victims had been living at a camp on key street in san jose. some say that the homeless are the most at risk. >> when the flu hits, when a bad epidemic hits, people die because they are compromised already. >> the number of flu related deaths is now at 14 and because the most recent deaths -- the santa clara health department is planning to send mobile units that will offer flu shots to people who live on the streets. >> new, the vice president signaled the united states is willing to talk to iran about its nuclear program. he is a tending a security conference in germany. he met yesterday with the chancellor. previous negotiations with the un security council and germany

made little progress. biden said the united states will talk to tehran if the iran leadership is serious in striking a deal. north korea is threatening retailation for what it calls american double standards. a official said the united states protested launch in september but supported the south korean launch. they had recently suggested it would soon do it's third nuclear test. the grounding of boeing 787's comes at a high cost for the international airport. the news reports the city is losing $214,000 a day. the airport launched its dream liner service to tokoyq on january 11th where the planes were grounded five-days later. >> a spare the area alert is in effect due to high levels of air pollution. that means it's illegal to burn

somebody who's been here. the day before the super bowl, all this buildup, what's going through the players' minds right now? >> something that started off when they were kids in the sand lot, used to imagine playing in the super bowl, they used to -- you draw your number of your favorite player on your jersey. you have imagined about it, dreamed about it all of your life. and tomorrow, it's about to come true. right now they are in their rooms thinking that, man, my imagination is becoming a reality! it's going to be hard for them to sleep. they will drink a lot of chamomile tea because they are playing in the super bowl! >> reporter: one of the things that is so special about this super bowl is brothers are coaching against each other. think about the odds to coach in the nfl in the first place, then the super bowl, and then that they are brothers. the saying goes you are hired to one day be fired. joint press conference yesterday, the two brothers were asked if you're ever fired, would you work potentially on the other guy's

staff? >> i would -- yeah, definitely. and i would work for him, sure. >> i concur. >> reporter: well, i tell you, the manager here at filetti's in san francisco tells me that business will be booming throughout the day. you can expect things will get more and more crowded. already, things picking up here inside the store. i'm told by the manager, this is already one of the busiest shopping days of the year for this store, the saturday before the super bowl. managers here expect that with the 49ers in the big game, things will only be busier. fans, of course, will be coming in to stock up on snacks and drinks. managers told me here they will probably see a 20% spike in sales today. i talked a short time ago with one man who came down to buy everything he needs for his super bowl party. >> a little family thing. there are about six of us that will get together at the house. then my little son, this is his first super bowl. he's two and he's got his patrick willis jersey ready to go. >> reporter: one of the more popular spots inside the store will probably be the meat counter, where the butchers

told me they came in extra early this morning to prep all the steaks, the sausages, the chicken wings and the ribs, all of those hot sellers for super bowl sunday. they expect back there at the meat counter to sell probably 1500 pounds of meat, just today here at this filettii's store. they expect crowds will pick up throughout the day. the key is to do your shopping early. that's the best advice. live this morning in san francisco, alex savage, ktvu channel 2news. >> thanks, alex. expect a large dui crackdown from police officers before, during and after the game. cities across the bay area are setting up sobriety check points, like this one in san rafael last night. serving as a warning that drunk driving will not be tolerated. aaa says alcohol-related car crashes in california increased 75% on super bowl sundays. >> you got the lights out here, the cars out here, the motorcycles out here. we're trying to make a big impression on people that this is a big event and a big thing

for people not to do. >> in addition to check points, saturation patrols will be looking for intoxicated drivers after the game. police say bartenders, restaurant servers, and even people hosting super bowl parties at their homes can be held responsible if a drunk guest gets into an accident. in other news this morning, violence overnight struck the gallery walk. a young man was shot and killed around 23rd street and telegraph avenue. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. officers say another person had to be taken to the hospital. shootings happened in the middle of art murmur, the event on the first friday of every month that promotes local artwork and shops. investigators haven't commented on whether the event was connected to the shootings. a homicide investigation is under way in fairfield, where a teenager girl's body was found in a park. a passer-by found the girl's naked body in alan whitt park on west texas street around 6:45 yesterday morning. police tell ktvu the girl was

in middle school. she was reported missing thursday night after she didn't come home after school. our news crew on the scene yesterday met a man who says he had driven by the park around 5:00 in the morning and saw something that he thought was suspicious. >> a car parked, parking light facing the south with, headlights on, with a larger man standing next to his car. and it just struck me funny all day. >> police say they are following up on that man's information and reviewing all available surveillance video. now, ktvu did find two cameras across the street, but police said one didn't capture anything and the other just wasn't operating. . wall-to-wall gray as we start our day. how are you this morning? we have plenty of clouds to go around. you can see here live over the oakland estuary, because of those clouds overhead, helping to offset the cooling in the overnight hours. temperatures at this hour, in the low 50s in many spots. oakland, this includes you, 53.

actually building our northwest swell. what that is going to do is bring hazardous conditions to some of our beaches. in fact, all of our motion beaches from the north bay down into monterey, lasting through the weekend. 6 to 8-feet as well as will be building. 8 to 10 into the evening hours. that means strong rip currents, large breaks, right along the beaches. and the possibility of sneaker waves. that to be aware of for beachgoers. 59 pacifica for this afternoon. low 60s berkeley. north bay, a cooler day for you. 64 santa rosa, 63 for no vad dough. numbers still above average. 63 san jose, 62 mountain view, 63 los gatos. a dry forecast. tomorrow, a tad bit more sunshine through the morning hours, then abundant sunshine expected by the second half of the day. low to mid-60s in the forecast. a tad warmer on monday.

was there something that maybe wasn't -- something else that wasn't done? maybe a message to, you know, people? was it big viewing -- was there something you can help stop? >> this is going to be super bowl number 6 for us. only the pittsburgh steelers are going to be tied with us. we need to win like we've been there before. everybody needs to carry themselves like they are on video, because they are. some people after that celebration are looking at five years perhaps, in jail for the offenses they committed. >> those are the folks who attacked that muni bus. >> yeah, it's crazy. this is -- we're all 49er fans. we can have a great time without damaging any property or hurting anybody's business or certainly hurting each other. so i'm just telling everybody right now ahead of time, act like you'll be on tv. if you want to mug for the cameras, whether for channel 2 or anybody else, but just know whether it's a cell phone camera, cameras that we'll have up, all these major celebratory corridors, you know, you're on

the dow jones industrial average starting monday above the 14,000 mark. president obama says our economy is poised to expand. >> 2013 can be a solid year of solid growth, more jobs, and higher wages, but that will only happen if we put a stop to self-inflicted wounds in washington. >> in this morning's weekly address, the president called on congress to work together on a balanced approach to reduce the deficit and promote economic growth. he says businesses created 2.2 million jobs last year. mr. obama suggests economic reforms including reducing the cost of healthcare programs like medicare and closing loopholes in the tax code. first time in five years that the dow closed above 14,000. the industrial average had dropped to as low as 6600 in 2009. analysts credit increased consumer confidence, manufacturing, and auto sales for the recent stock market surge. >> we're moving in the right direction and compared to a lot of other countries, i think we're in a good position.

martino, giving us the experience. >> reporter: i would like to try some of this stuff at the nfl experience, and we may after the next couple of minutes. you mentioned 150,000 people. feels like that on bourbon street and down the french quarter at night, feels like 150,000 people in the convention center right now. it's the way it's been the last couple of days. people have been filing into new orleans ever since really thursday. the crowd really shifted. wednesday, it was kind of quiet, but since thursday, everybody's been buzzing, including last night when train performed, gave a little concert. there's music all over the city, but this was at the sugar mills section. they put on an hour and a half- long concert for the fans. that was fun for them to get a little different taste in music, not just the jazz you see on every street corner. but train performing, one of the many acts going on.

full with 49er fans stocking up for the parties, grabbing the chips, dip and the drinks, of course. another very busy spot will be the meat counter. we checked in with the butchers back there. they were here early this morning, cutting up the rib eyes, the t-bones, chicken wings and sausages. the butcher back there, anticipates selling 1500 pounds of meat just today, to all those 49er fans. the store itself will likely see a 20% jump in sales compared to what they do on an average day. >> every year we're a little earlier, but this ye we expect to be starting early. >> so you guys are here early! >> we were here at 4:00, getting ready. hopefully we'll have a good day. >> reporter: you can also expect the beer aisle will be a busy place today, and of course they will probably clear out a lot of the chips, tortilla chips, potato chips, all the staples for super bowl parties.

of private opening party. well, the 49er family could score a big victory today. former owner is the finalist for the pro football hall of fame. last month, he presented the nfc championship trophy to the current owner, his sister and nephew. debart low brought the 49 -- other candidates include charles haley, kevin green, and tim brown. 1:45 this morning on delta fair boulevard, police say a driver lost control and hit a tree before coming to a stop on the sidewalk. the pedestrian was found pinned beneath the car. police are looking into the cause of the crash. an oakland woman may face criminal charges for prompting a false amber alert about a child that does not even exist.

highway signs began flashing the alert yesterday morning. the woman told police that her boyfriend attacked her and kidnapped their 18-month-old daughter near their home on 96th avenue. well, the boyfriend later surrendered and told his side of the story. investigators then confirmed there was no child and may seek charges against the woman. so far, police are not releasing her name. san jose's annual gang prevention program is under way right now. the idea is to have the city's gang task force work with community members toward the common goal of reducing gang violence. some of the issues addressed will be neighborhood safety, as well as crime prevention. oakland police are objecting to a report by a court-appointed monitor, accusing officers of pointing a gun at a sleeping child. >> the idea that my officers are pointing a gun intentionally at the 19-month- old are factually incorrect. i have read the report. i stand by what the officers did. >> police chief howard jordan says the officers were

executing a search warrant when they realized there was a toddler in the home. jordan says an officer stayed with the child while the search was completed. the federal monitor's report accuses the department of failing to investigate in a timely manner allegations of misconduct, as well as mismanagement. new this morning, vice president joe biden signals the u.s. is willing to talk directly to iran about its nuclear program. biden is attending a security conference in germany. he met yesterday with the german chancellor. previous irani negotiations with the u.n. security council in germany made little progress, but biden announced the u.s. is willing to talk to tehran, but only if the iranian leadership is serious about striking a deal. well, north korea is threatening to retaliate for what it calls american double standards. a north korean official says the u.s. protested a rocket launch in december, but then supported a south korea launch this past wednesday. the north official did not elaborate on the threat, but it

was suggested it will conduct its third test soon. the grounding of the boeing 787 dreamliner comes at a high cost for san jose international airport. the san jose mercury news reports the city is losing an average of $214,000 a day. the airport launched its ana dreamliner service to tokyo on january 11th, but the planes were grounded five days later, after reports of battery problems. we have learned two more people died here in the bay area from this winter's flu outbreak. yesterday, santa clara county public health officials confirmed two homeless men, both 58 years old, died of the flu last month. the victims had been living at an encampment on key street in san jose. some say the homeless are the most vulnerable. >> when the flu hits, when a bad epidemic hits, when a norovirus hits, people die, because they are already compromised. >> the number of flu-related deaths in california is now at 14 and because of the most recent death, santa clara county is now sending mobile units to offer flu shots to

month. the ban prohibits the display of one's lower body parts, except at permitted public events. four people were cited at the protest. police say a suspicious package that shut down a busy san francisco street was a grenade. it happened around 8:45 last night on mission, between 16th and 17th street. the bomb squad was called out to examine the device. police say it was not a live grenade and did not pose a threat to safety. new information on the hostage standoff in midland city, alabama. fbi agents have delivered coloring books, medication, and toys to a 5-year-old boy being held in an underground bunker. officers say a gunman kidnapped the boy from the schoolbus after killing the bus driver on tuesday. police took the bus away from the scene yesterday. the gunman and boy are now in the gunman's bunker. negotiators have been talking to them through a ventilation pipe. our government is donating medicine to help survivors of last sunday's deadly nightclub

fire in brazil. many survivors in hailed cyanide from burning insulation foam. the u.s. government has sent 140 cyanide treatment kids and the medicine is set to arrive today. more than 230 people died in the fire. police say it started when the band lit a flare on stage. well, at least one person was killed after protesters stormed egypt's presidential palace. >> protesters demanding the recent i guess nation of president morsi threw stones through the palace gates. security forces used tear gas and set fire to protester tents. morsi was not at the palace during the protest. >> like holding a piece of meat like a bad dog, causing violence. all the violence that happened till now is caused by the system. that is you. >> the march on the palace was part of a wave of protests around the country, calling for

morsi's resignation. protesters say the muslim brotherhood has month -- -- once a follower of charles manson. the state patrol board formally recommended that 70-year-old bruce davis be released. davis is serving a life sentence for the 1969 murders of musician gary hinman and stuntman donald shea. parole officials say davis became an evangelical christian while in prison and earned a doctorate in philosophy and religion. if davis is released, he would be the first member of manson's so-called family to be released on parole. fbi agents searching in a san joaquin county well for buried murder victims have not made any discoveries. authorities are searching for the victims of killer's wesley sherman tine and herman her sog. the well has reached a depth of 65 feet, but with no findings. sherman tine says the well is not one of his disposal spots.

new information this morning about the fatal shooting of a deputy in modesto. according to a new report, deputy bob paris was warned to be very cautious when serving an eviction notice on james ferraro. paris was reportedly told ferraro was likely armed and may have had bombs inside his modesto town house. paris and a locksmith were killed in april while trying to drill through a lock in the front door of the home. should teachers carry guns on local campuses? a new survey shows california voters say no. 1200 voters were asked and 31% want teachers carrying guns at school. 67% favor hiring counselors over police officers. and 96% think emergency response training is a good idea for school employees. this week, republican lawmakers introduced a bill to arm teachers. that fold the sandy hook school shooting. fatty chips, candy, mozzarella sticks could soon be replaced by baked chips, trail
